The law graduate with a doctorate in social sciences already performed this role at the FVB from 1992 to 2012. Dr. Manuela Urban, a biologist with an MBA, succeeded him in this position in 2012. She left the FVB on April 12, 2021, after more than eight years in the role of Managing Director. She is switching to a position in the digital economy.
Falk Fabich was Managing Director of the FVB from its foundation until his retirement. After his departure, he continued to be heavily involved as a science manager. He was engaged as Managing Director of organizations such as the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven, the Berlin Institute of Health, and the Centre for East European and International Studies in Berlin. He also acted in an advisory capacity for the Römisch-Germanisches Zentralmuseum in Mainz and various other institutes of the Leibniz Association.
In a farewell interview, Manuela Urban talks about her time as Managing Director of the FVB (in German only, the English version will follow shortly). Projects accomplished under her leadership include the modernization and digitalization program in the Joint Administration, which passed the acid test of the coronavirus pandemic with flying colors. Before joining the FVB, she acted, among other things, as Chief Administrative Officer of the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics; at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, she was responsible for the development of the natural sciences at the Science and Technology Park Adlershof and served as Personal Assistant to the Presidents Marlis Dürkop and Hans Meyer.
