With the 10,000 euro prize, the IKZ honors Prof. Kalinin's internationally recognized contributions to the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in transmission electron microscopy (TEM). His work has enabled new methodological approaches and provided valuable impetus for joint research initiatives at the IKZ.
Sergei Kalinin is a Weston Fulton Chair Professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and has served as a principal scientist at Amazon Grand Challenge. He spent 20 years at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he was a corporate fellow and group leader at the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences. He received his MS degree from Moscow State University in 1998 and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 2002. His research focuses on the applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence to materials synthesis, discovery, and optimization, as well as automated experiment and imaging workflows in advanced microscopy.
The workshop brings together international researchers to highlight advances, methodological challenges and future perspectives at the interface of AI and microscopy.
Participants are invited to submit scientific posters. Outstanding contributions will be recognized with a poster prize, which will be awarded in collaboration with TFS and DENSsolutions. Another sponsor of the event is Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. In addition, the IKZ offers guided tours through its laboratories and the Berlin-Adlershof Center for Advanced Microscopy (BeAM).
Further information, the complete program and the possibility to register can be found on the IKZ event page.
