Saglik is one of 20 young researchers worldwide selected by an international jury for the 2025 Digital GreenTalents Award, presented by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). The competition recognizes outstanding early-career scientists whose work advances innovative solutions at the intersection of digitalization and sustainable development.

Originally from Turkey, Saglik earned her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering through a joint program of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), Singapore. Her research focuses on enhancing the efficiency of thermoelectric materials, which can directly convert waste heat into electrical energy - an approach with significant potential for sustainable energy technologies.

The exchange is part of a program that connects outstanding early-career researchers from around the world and provides them with the opportunity to further develop their research at leading German research institutions. The program also includes an international summer school focusing on future-oriented topics such as energy systems, digitalization, the circular economy, and climate change, as well as visits to Industriepark Höchst, TU Darmstadt, and LOEWE_emergenCITY.

The IKZ considers Saglik’s appointment a valuable opportunity to gain new scientific perspectives in the field of thermoelectrics and functional oxide materials while strengthening collaborative research efforts in digitalization and the development of sustainable energy-efficient materials. In particular, the exchange offers promising opportunities to combine Saglik’s expertise with the institute’s strengths in crystal growth and thin-film technologies.
