BV MatWerk serves as a central platform of the several societies and associations active in materials science and engineering across Germany. Currently, 25 societies and associations are members of BVMatWerk, among them also the German association of crystal growth (DGKK). The mission of BV MatWerk is to help coordinating activities, to harness synergies, to foster the dialogue with politics and enhance the visibility and impact of the field while fully respecting the autonomy of its member organizations. In this way, BV MatWerk contributes to strengthening Germany’s international competitiveness as a leading industrial and innovation hub.
The board of directors defines the strategic and scientific direction of the association. In close collaboration with its member organizations, it identifies key priorities, fosters dialogue between academia, industry, and society, and promotes collaboration as well as the development of early-career researchers. With the appointment of Dr. Wolfram Miller, the board further strengthens its expertise in crystal growth and materials research. In his new role, he will work closely with the chair, Dr. Ursula Eul (Fraunhofer Materials – Components – Materials Network), and the secretary general, Prof. Dr. Susan Schorr (German Crystallographic Society), to advance the strategic development of BV MatWerk, deepen collaboration within the community, and provide forward-looking impulses for the field and for promoting young talents.
